A Little Q&A

What is your biggest pet peeve?

I have a few things that well and truly wind me up but I get frustrated the most when I’m interrupted or someone speaks over me.

What is your worst habit?

Russell would want me to say correcting his grammar here, so let’s say that.

If you could only keep one make up item what would it be?

Ohhhh, tough one! I’m torn between mascara and concealer. Mascara would draw attention away from the rest of mon visage and concealer could disguise the pools of darkness and be used as foundation. I’ll assume my skin was miraculously flawless (please!) and say mascara, but a brown one so I could use it for lashes, liner and brows. Yup…brown mascara.

What is your favourite perfume at the moment?

Burberry Weekend has been a favourite of mine for a long time now. I also love Rose et Reines by L’Occitane. I’d be happy with a bucket of either!

Any tips for aging skin?

I would suggest getting your skincare in order first, by identifying your skin type as of right now. Our skin changes throughout our lives and products that worked for you ten years ago may not be so effective today. Make your way to a reputable beauty therapist for a facial or have a skin consultation at a counter in Boots or Debenhams. By having your skin assessed you will then be able to select products that will benefit you in the here and now. I would also recommend you invest more in skincare than in make up. Educate yourself, read up on skincare products from magazines and articles. QVC Beauty programmes (yes that’s the one on channel 16 Granny, if you ever read this) featuring brands such as Decleor, Elemis or Gatineau will not only teach you about particular products but also help you establish a routine and understand how age is actually affecting your complexion.

With regard to make up, I would suggest keeping things light in terms of formula. Liquids and creams will be more flattering than any powder. Heavy foundations and concealers will sit in, and exaggerate, any fine lines so try something that targets aging skin. Estee Lauder and Lancome would be my first ports of call. Make sure foundations are a good colour match and bring some life to your skin as opposed to making it too matte and, by extension, flat. Product placement will also be important for you. For example, blush worn a little higher on the cheekbone will appear more youthful and lifted than blush on the apples of the cheeks. A tasteful sweep of a subtle highlight would add to this illusion further. Also, try filling in your brows, if don’t already and you’ll immediately see the structure that a groomed brow will give to your whole face. All in all though, your make up will look good if you take care of your skin so, again I say, invest more there.

What are you watching at the moment?

A series called ‘Devious Maids’, it’s a bit like ‘Desperate Housewives’ which I also love but centres around the lives of four maids working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. It’s pure cheese but what’s the harm that? On the other end of the spectrum I would also recommend ‘The Blacklist’, about a former FBI agent who turned rogue and was later drafted back as a glorified tout, helping a team of agents to take down the criminal elite. In a similar vain, but more light hearted, try ‘White Collar’.

Are you going to buy the new Naked palette from Urban Decay?

No, and my reasons are threefold…

  1. I don’t actually need another palette and the purchase of one will throw my palette drawer organisation right off. I couldn’t possibly have that.
  2. The shades are all very tonal. Beautiful, I’m sure, but lacking in variety. Plus, I like a black or espresso brown to use as an eyeliner. I ain’t gettin’ that here!
  3. The whole Naked thing is played out now. It’s time to move on.

Which YouTubers do you enjoy watching?
I watch quite a few, mostly videos from beauty ‘gurus’. I hate that term! The ones that I learn most  from though are Lisa EldridgeTati WestbrookSam and Nic Chapman (creators of Real Techniques ❤❤️❤) and Charlotte Tilbury

Are you still having headaches?

Yes! Not with the same intensity or frequency but they haven’t gone completely yet. My glasses help and I’ve been taking a vitamin B supplement for several months which I think has made a difference.

If you could only use one brand of make up for the rest of your life, what would it be?

How sad a world that would be! If forced to throw my loyalty behind just one brand I would, with reluctance, choose…genuinely finding this difficult…ok, Bare Minerals. That truly hurts to pick. The reason being I like enough of the their products to do a full face (bar shadows) where with other brands I’m only partial to their foundations or palettes or lip products. Plus, mineral make up does no harm to the skin whatsoever so that’s got to be a big point in the brand’s favour and I’m obsessed with their Gen Nude Matte lips in every possible shade. Don’t make me stick to just one brand though, please!

Think I own five of these now. Quite mousse like in texture and decent staying power without being overly drying.

How long have you been married?

Just over 4 and a half years. I have known Russell for 11 years and we’ll be together 9 years in September.

Give me a random fact about you.

I have a heart murmur, which I didn’t know until I was 16!

Do you have any embarrassing stories?

Em…yes! Where do I begin?! I’m told I used to suck the dirt off stones, that’s not good. I also used to faint a lot. Two most embarrassing episodes…

  1. Fainting when watching “that video”in Biology, falling into my science partner (who thought I was messing about), being pushed the other way (thanks Kristina!! 😂), falling off the stool onto the wood block floor, being dragged out into the corridor and waking up to the scariest teacher in the world right in my face saying “We all have to do it someday, my girl!”
  2. That time in the chip shop in Zebedees. I’ll leave that one there!

Why is your blog called aweeblog17?

I wanted quite a generic name as I don’t want to limit the content to one area so that was one consideration. Also, being from Northern Ireland, the word ‘wee’ is used in every other sentence so I gave a wee nod to that. The 17 was just to commemorate the year it all started!

What is your favourite product?

Not sure if you mean skincare or makeup so I’ll hit both.

Make up- at the moment I’m very into cream shadows and shadow sticks such as NYX Lid Lingerie and Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon line. So quick and easy but looks well put together and polished.

Skincare- Nivea in shower moisturiser for the body (God send!!!) and Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish.

Thank you so much for your questions, I’ve really enjoyed reading and answering them! If you enjoyed reading it, let me know and I can do another one in the future!

Thanks for stopping by!
