E.L.F cosmetics recently launched a stand in my local Superdrug. Yes American readers, we know that’s a ridiculous name! I was delighted at the prospect of trying a few products as I had never bothered ordering from their website. Sometimes I just like to see and feel the product for myself. This was one item that I’d had my eye on for a while. Dry, crusty, flakey skinned pouts ain’t a good look on anyone.
I already owned a wee scrub do da from LUSH but I hate putting my finger into the pot. If you follow me on Snapchat you’ll know I despise getting gook under my nails. Therefore, the convenience of this appealed to me greatly. E.L.F claim that this will treat and smooth your lips whilst conditioning them.
Packaging– convenient and obviously not as messy as the LUSH pots. I can’t imagine what situation you’d be in to require an exfoliant in your handbag, but if you did, this would be it.
Scent– I have the brown sugar one and I admit, it smells scrummy. Sweet but not sickly. Other flavours, fragrances, whatever you want to call them, are also available, including mint and cherry.
Effectiveness– Instructions dictate that you apply this in circular motions on dampened lips. It’s the weirdest thing- basically what you have here is a balm with bits of sugar packed into it. This should make it live up to its claims but it just doesn’t. Very little, in terms of wee scrubbies, actually come off the bullet. The only hope you have of this smoothing your kissers is if you continuously swipe back and forth. BEWARE though, the sensation is akin to sandpaper because none of the sugar is released. It actually managed to remove a wee flakey bit of skin that I had on my lower lip but it made my lip bleed! It’s too abrasive and quite painful to use.
Verdict– at £4.50 it’s not going to break the bank but I wouldn’t advise you part even with that amount. I don’t care what the price, a product should do what it advertises and it shouldn’t make the situation worse. My wee Mint Julip pot from LUSH is only £1.25 extra- you’ll get a lot more product, it tastes pretty good and it will do what it says on the tin.
Thanks for stopping by!
